Stuart B. Shapiro

Stuart Shapiro is a founding Member of Edell, Shapiro & Finnan. He counsels clients in matters pertaining to patent law, and prepares and prosecutes patent applications before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He has extensive patent prosecution experience, especially in the fields of computer hardware and software. In addition, Stuart has participated in various aspects of patent litigation including attending court hearings, and preparation of patent related opinions and briefs.   

Stuart was a U.S. Patent Examiner working in the areas of Artificial Intelligence, Speech Processing, and Robotic Control. In addition, Stuart worked as a Software Engineer for several years with various major corporations prior to entering the Patent Law field.  

Stuart received a B.S. degree in Computer Science (with a Minor in Electrical Engineering) from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1986, an M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from The Johns Hopkins University in 1990, and a J.D. degree from the University of Baltimore in 1995. He is a member of the bar of Maryland and various professional organizations (ABA, IEEE, and AIPLA), and is registered to practice before the U. S. Patent and Trademark Office and the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
